PLATE PENDING · The Doormat That Knows Who Is Coming
The coir remains dark at three corners, as if recently rained upon. Beneath the word WELCOME, a narrow brass strip displays a visitor's expected time but not their name.
Recovered from the entrance of a cooperative house awaiting demolition.
The Doormat That Knows Who Is Coming
Woven with forecast thread, the doormat once recognized approaching callers by the weather they carried. It warmed for expected guests, cooled for strangers, and held the damp imprint of anyone returning home.

The house receives no forecast
Your shoe passes above the pale threads. They cool without stirring, and the brass strip records NO CALLER EXPECTED. In your future, doors still open when you knock, but no hallway warms beforehand: coat hooks remain crowded, entry lamps stay dim, and rain beads on your sleeves until you choose where to leave it.
